From the Knoxville Chapter President,

In Louisiana, we have a famous saying "Laissez les bons temps rouler (Let the good times roll)." The spirit of fun and excitement is what happened at our February dance with a Mardi Gras theme. We had over 42 people participate in the group dance of Salsa and Bachata. More than 60 people attended this dance which surpassed our earlier records. We had some specialty foods like jambalaya. There was plenty of good energy and lots of dances. For $35 annually, individuals can enjoy a host of benefits which includes monthly dances at a reduced rate and quality dance instructor.

Our chapter submitted our paperwork to HQ to become an official chapter which will entitle us chapter funding for our activities. We are a volunteer organization. I would encourage you to be involved in areas of emphasis by contacting the following chairpersons: Phil Carter (Competitor Development), Estraletta Green (Hospitality), David McNish (Membership), Mark McGuire (Publicity), and Talon Hill (Youth Outreach). If you have suggestions on improvements for our chapter, please contact a board member.

For those of you interested in dance competition, USA Dance, Inc. offers quality dance competitions in a low cost fashion. Some dance competitions can cost participations thousands of dollars over a weekend with little competition. USA Dance gives individuals an opportunity to try with very little cost.

We are encouraging our competitors to support the Georgia DanceSport Competition on May 22-24th in Atlanta. An adult competitor's fee starts at $89 until April 1st. In 2000, the Atlanta competition was one of the largest in the Southeast. If you have any questions, please contact Phil Carter, me, or a board member if you have questions. We plan to host an interest meeting and demonstration in April.

Help us recruit and attract more interested people! Our goal is 500 members within five years. We believe we have the right members to achieve this major goal. We want to serve as the leader and focal point of ballroom dancing in the East Tennessee region and strive to educate the public regarding the physical, mental and social benefits of ballroom dancing.

See you Sunday!

Let me know how we can better serve you.
